Tang Soo Do (Korean Karate) is an ancient martial art originating over 2,000 years ago in Korea and is one of the oldest forms of karate practiced around the world today. Tang Soo Do is known as a classical martial art that is especially noted by most experts as a superior kicking style, and whose current status has been achieved through many decades of refining and improving its numerous techniques.
Today, its instruction methods still emphasize the philosophies and discipline that were stressed in ancient times, and while adjusting to the physical and mental needs of today's practitioners it is designed and intended to progressively develop character, integrity, self-discipline, and respect for others.
TANG SOO DO, when literally translated, breaks down to the following: TANG means "of the T'ang Dynasty" which existed in China between 617 and 907 AD; SOO means "open hand" and DO means "the way of life". In combining these meanings the translation becomes "the opened handed fighting way of T'ang Dynasty".
MetroWest Tang Soo Do, founded in February of 2004, is owned and operated by Master Debi Boudrot and her husband Master Buster Farraher. Prior to opening they had conducted classes at the MetroWest YMCA (1989-1992) and had operated Framingham Tang Soo Do (1992-2004). In addition, they conducted classes for Framingham’s CASA (Children Against Substance Abuse) program.
Master Boudrot published the article “Success for 'At Risk' Kids” in Traditional Tang Soo Do Illustrated (1995) and her school was profiled in Traditional Tang Soo Do Illustrated (1996). She received the International Tang Soo Do Federation’s Special Merit Award in 1993 and was distinguished as the American Tang Soo Do Association’s Black Belt of the Year in 1999.
MetroWest is affiliated with the American Tang Soo Do Association (ATA). The ATA was created in 1973 in order to unify and standardize Tang Soo Do instruction, training and testing in the United States. The organization currently oversees the operation of many schools across the country.
MetroWest Tang Soo Do boasts 5 Master level instructors, many with over 20 years of experience. In addition, instructors are certified through the ATA and actively train under Grandmaster Marco DiScipio (President of the ATA) and Master Boudrot.
